Can I transfer backups stored on my IDrive BMR device to my IDrive cloud account?

Yes, you can upload the backups stored on your IDrive BMR device to your IDrive cloud and maintain a secondary cloud repository. The Cloud Replication tab allows you to schedule the transfers from your IDrive BMR device to the cloud storage, perform immediate transfers, and monitor the cloud replication status.

How do I transfer my backups to the IDrive cloud account?

You can initiate an immediate cloud transfer or schedule replication for specific days.

To initiate an immediate transfer,

  1. Connect to the IDrive BMR device interface.
  2. Go to Cloud Replication.
  3. Navigate to Computers/VMware servers to view the local backups available in respective tabs.
  4. Click Transfer Now corresponding to a computer/VMware machine to perform immediate cloud transfer.
    Switch to Cloud Seeding

Click View details to track the progress.

To schedule a transfer,

  1. Connect to the IDrive BMR device interface.
  2. Go to Cloud Replication.
  3. Navigate to Computers/VMware servers to view the local backups available in respective tabs.
  4. Click Schedule Replication.
    Switch to Cloud Seeding

The Schedule cloud replication slider will open for Computers/VMware servers.
  5. Select the required computer(s)/VMware machine(s), schedule the cloud replication, and enable soft/hard replication end time if required.
    Cleanup Time
Note: Hard cut-off will terminate cloud replication at the specified end time. The soft cut-off will terminate cloud replication after ongoing recovery point transfer.
  6. Click Save.

What parameters should I set to schedule cloud replication?

Navigate to Cloud Replication > Computers/VMware servers > Schedule cloud replication and configure the following scheduling parameters:

  1. Select computers for cloud replication/Select ESXi/vCenter VMs for backup: Select PCs/VMs.
  2. Scheduled replication time: Set the time at which your scheduled cloud replication tasks should start.
Use the radio buttons to set this backup as Daily, for Weekdays, the Weekends, or Custom set to select days of the week.
  3. Replication end time: Disable replication end time or configure a soft/hard cut-off for the end time.
Note: Hard cut-off will terminate cloud replication at the specified end time. The soft cut-off will terminate cloud replication after ongoing recovery point transfer.

Where can I see the status of my ongoing cloud replication?

To view the status of your cloud replication tasks, click Replication Status. Information such as computer/VM name, last replication status, size of the data transferred to the cloud, and the actual size of the data will be displayed on the screen.

Cloud Backup Status

What is the speed of cloud replication?

The time required for cloud replication is dependent on various factors such as the size of the data being transferred, the network bandwidth, and any ongoing IDrive BMR operation. To set the Internet usage limit for cloud replication, click Bandwidth Throttle, set an internet usage limit for cloud replication, and click Save.

If you want to transfer bulk backups to the cloud faster, consider using Cloud Seeding.

What happens if I exceed my cloud storage limit?

For certain paid accounts, your cloud replications will continue uninterrupted even if you exceed your cloud storage limit. However, you will incur an overage charge at the rate of $120/TB/month. In case your usage exceeds your cloud storage quota, you may upgrade to one of the higher storage plans and avoid overage charges. Upgrades may involve additional charges.

IDrive BMR also provides options to configure the cloud retention policy and delete data from the cloud. Refer to How do I manage my cloud backups on the IDrive BMR web console?

Where can I view the status of my last cloud replication?

Click Last Replication Log to view the status of your latest cloud data transfer. The Last replication log slider appears displaying the status of the replication operation. The name of the computer/VM for which replication was performed, the recovery point, the size of the data transferred, and a summary of the transfer will be displayed.

Cloud Backup Status

What is 'Schedule Summary' in the 'Cloud Replication' tab?

The Schedule Summary section displays the summary of the scheduled backup. Information such as computers selected for backup, day and time of the next scheduled backup will be displayed.

Click Delete Schedule to delete all upcoming scheduled backups.

Schedule Summary

Where can I view the logs of my recent cloud replication operations?

On the Cloud Replication page, navigate to Computers or VMware servers tab, and click View Logs to view the respective cloud replication logs.

Events
Alternatively, go to Logs > Computers/VMware servers > Cloud replication logs.

The Cloud replication logs screen appears displaying a list of all the cloud replication activities for your computers/VMware servers. You can view information like the computer/VM name, replication date, uploaded volumes, the status of the replication, recovery point, type of replication, etc.

Error Logs

The cloud replication logs show an error in connecting to the cloud. How do I resolve this issue?

When the IDrive BMR device tries to connect to the IDrive cloud, firewall constraints like the SSH Deep Pack Inspection engine in SonicWall, Sophos XG, Fortigate and other security appliances could cause authentication failures.

To resolve the connectivity issues, configure the firewall: either disable SSH DPI completely or allow SSH traffic to the IDrive BMR cloud server by adding a specific rule with the cloud server IP and port.

Contact support to receive details of the cloud server IP and port.

Is my data encrypted during cloud replication?

Yes, IDrive BMR encrypts your data during transfer to the IDrive cloud account and when your cloud data is at rest.
