View the Installation Steps
The Synology Backup App is packaged as a SPK. Separate installers are available for all supported Synology models.

Pre-requisites

For DSM versions 5.2 or earlier

Enable web station on your NAS device prior to the Synology Backup App installation.

To enable Web station,

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > Web Services.
  2. Select Enable Web Station and click Apply.
  3. Navigate to Control Panel > Web Services > PHP Settings.
  4. Clear the Enable PHP safe_mode_exec_dir access limitation and Enable PHP cache check boxes and click Apply (if available).

For DSM versions 6.0 or later

To install Web Station & PHP packages,

  1. Navigate to Package Center > Utilities and install the Web Station package.
  2. Navigate to Package Center > Developer Tools and install the PHP package.
    Install PHP 5.6 if DSM version is 6.0.2-8450 or earlier.
    or
    Install PHP 7.0 if DSM version is 6.0.2-8451 or higher.

To update General Settings,

  • Navigate to Main Menu > Web Station > General Settings.
  • Select HTTP back-end server as Apache HTTP Server 2.2 or Nginx.
  • Select the PHP version which is selected in General Settings.



To update PHP Settings,

  1. Navigate to Main Menu > Web Station > PHP Settings.
  2. Select the PHP version PHP 5.6 or PHP 7.0.
  3. Enable PHP extension Mcrypt.
  4. Enable PHP extension curl if it is available.
  5. Add '/etc:' in the beginning of open_basedir, if it does not already exist.
  6. Clear the Enable PHP cache check box if it is enabled."

To provide Read / Write permission to Web folder for the http group

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > Group > http > Edit > Permission.
  2. Provide Read/Write permission to the folder Web and click the OK button.

Installation

  1. Log in to your Synology NAS device as admin.
  2. Download SPK and save the appropriate installer for your Synology device.
  3. Navigate to Package Center > Settings, and under the Trust Level section, select Any Publisher and click OK.
  4. Click the Manual Install button.
  5. Click the Browse button and select the IDrive SPK.
  6. Click Next. The Confirm Settings dialog box appears.
  7. On the dialog box,
    • If you do not select the Run after installation check box and click Apply, a pop-up message indicating successful installation appears. The IDrive App will be installed and will appear in Package Center with the status as Stopped. Click the IDrive icon, and in the Action list, click Run to activate the IDrive App, and the status will appear as Running.
    • OR
    • If you select the Run after installation check box and click Apply, the IDrive app will be installed and its status will appear as Running.
  8. When the application is running, the IDrive icon will be visible in the application gallery; click the IDrive icon to launch the IDrive App.

IDrive Uninstallation steps

  1. Navigate to Package Center > Installed tab and click the IDrive icon.
  2. In the Action list, click Uninstall, and on the confirmation message, click Yes.
