Can IDrive backup my OneDrive folder on my Windows computer?

If OneDrive is enabled on your computer, the OneDrive folder will be added to your backup set. To backup your OneDrive folder,

For Windows:

To successfully backup your OneDrive folder on a Windows computer, you will need to disable OneDrive's 'Files On-Demand' feature.

To disable OneDrive's Files On-Demand feature,

  1. Navigate to the 'OneDrive' icon on your system tray and select 'Settings'.



  2. Go to 'Advanced settings' > 'Files On-Demand'.



  3. Click 'Download all files'.
  4. Click 'Continue' in the popup to sync all OneDrive data to your computer.



Once the files are downloaded, add the OneDrive folder to your backup set. The next backup operation will backup the OneDrive folder.

Additionally, for Windows computers you can choose the files and folders to backup from your OneDrive folder.

To backup selected files / folders in the OneDrive folder,

  1. Navigate to the 'OneDrive' icon on your system tray and select 'Open your OneDrive folder'.



  2. Select the desired folders / files you wish to backup.
  3. Right-click and select 'Always keep on this device'.



The next backup operation will backup these OneDrive files and folders.

Can IDrive backup my OneDrive folder on my Mac computer?

If OneDrive is enabled on your computer, the OneDrive folder can be added to your backup set. To backup your OneDrive folder,

For Mac:

  1. Navigate to the 'OneDrive' icon on your system tray.
  2. Click and select 'Preferences'.

  3. In the 'Preferences' tab of the pop-up, select 'Download all OneDrive files now'.

  4. Click 'OK' to confirm. The OneDrive data will be synced on the local disk.
  5. Once the OneDrive data is synced to the Mac, add the OneDrive folder to your backup set.

    Click 'Go' in the menu bar and enter the OneDrive folder pathname in the following format:
    ~/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive

  6. Select 'OneDrive'. The next backup operation will backup the OneDrive folder.

The next backup operation will backup these OneDrive files and folders.

Why do I need to backup my OneDrive data?

Your data can be liable to loss, user errors or malicious behavior which Microsoft cannot protect you against. By using IDrive you can backup the data on the Microsoft OneDrive folder on your computer that is synchronized with your OneDrive account. You can backup OneDrive business and personal accounts with IDrive.

You can also access backed up OneDrive data easily from anywhere, and even recover the files / folders that were deleted from your OneDrive account or computer, without depending on Microsoft.

How do I backup the OneDrive data on my computer?

Before you backup OneDrive data, you need to ensure that the Microsoft OneDrive application is installed on your computer and the data is synchronized on the local disk.

For Windows:

The OneDrive folder is added for backup by default. To backup, click 'Backup Now' to perform an immediate backup. Alternatively, your data will be backed up when the next scheduled backup job commences.




Note:
The files marked 'Available offline' in the Microsoft OneDrive folder will be backed up. Files marked as 'Online-only' are not available on the local disk and will hence not be backed up to your IDrive account.

For Mac:

Add the OneDrive folder to your backup set.

  1. Click 'Change'.
  2. In the 'Select files / folders for Backup' popup, go to 'Library' > 'Cloud Storage' > 'OneDrive'.
  3. Select the checkbox for 'OneDrive' and click ‘OK'.
  4. To backup, click 'Backup Now' to perform an immediate backup. Alternatively, your data will be backed up when the next scheduled backup job commences.

How do I restore my backed up data?

Restore backed up data to the OneDrive folder on your computer in a few steps.

To restore data,

  1. From the 'Restore' tab, select 'Restore files from my IDrive account'.
  2. Select the Microsoft OneDrive folder to restore and choose the desired 'Restore location'. You can also choose particular items in the OneDrive folder for restore.
  3. Click 'Restore Now'.

Alternatively you can also select 'Restore to original location' which will restore all the backed up OneDrive data in your IDrive account to the Microsoft OneDrive folder on your computer. On successful completion of restore, all the restored data will be synced to your OneDrive account.

Does IDrive backup the modified files and folders in the OneDrive folder on my computer?

Yes, IDrive does incremental backups, which means subsequent OneDrive data backups will only include the data that have been added/modified since the last backup.

Will IDrive maintain versions of the files stored in the OneDrive folder on my computer?

Yes, IDrive maintains up to 30 previous versions of all the files backed up from the OneDrive folder on your computer.

To restore the previous versions of a file,

  1. In the 'Restore' tab, locate the Microsoft OneDrive folder.
  2. Right-click the required file and select the 'View previous versions' option from the list.

    You can also search your desired file version.

  3. Select the destination for restoring your data and click 'Restore Now'.
